Bollywood actress Vidya Balan has been roped in to play a detective in Dia Mirza's production "Bobby Jasoos".

The talented actress, known for her varied roles, will now play a lady sleuth in the lines of iconic British secret agent James Bond.

"I am thrilled to be lady James Bond. The film will mark the arrival of India's first lady detective and I am quite happy to be part of it. James Bond has become synonymous with 007... his gun and we will surely try to come up with something different and innovative," Vidya told Press Trust of India (PTI).

"The idea of a lady detective is exciting. If you want to see lady detective then I am here."

Vidya's role as the detective comes at a time when similar roles have been assigned to Ranbir Kapoor and newcomer Sushant Singh Rajput. While Ranbir will be seen as a detective in his production "Jagga Jasoos", Sushant has been assigned to play the role in Dibakar Bannerjee's film on "Detective Byomkesh Bakshi."

Diya Mirza, who is to produce "Bobby Jasoos" along with her partner Sahil Sangha, recently spoke about Vidya being the ideal choice to play the protagonist.

"She (Vidya) was an obvious choice. She is a powerhouse performer who has not been seen in such a space. Also, there are several layers to the character - she's inquisitive, curious, intelligent, an out-of-the-box thinker and quick on her feet - and it just syncs so well with Vidya's personality," Dia told The Times of India.

"Bobby Jasoos", which will be produced under Dia and Sangha's Born Free Entertainment, will go on floors by the end of this year. The film is expected to be released next summer.
