Huawei's subsidiary, the Honor smartphone brand, is expected to announce a new premium smartphone on May 10 in China. The handset, to be called Honor V8, is expected to borrow the dual camera setup, which made a debut in Huawei's P9 and P9 Plus smartphones earlier this month.

The news of the new Honor V8 smartphone was released on the company's official Weibo account. The company shared a teaser image of the V8 launch and mentioned the date on it. Honor hinted the dual camera setup, which was also found in 2014's Honor 6 Plus, in the teaser image.

According to a report by Android Headlines, the handset will sport two 12-megapixel camera sensors on the back as in the P9 and P9 Plus. The publication states the new Honor smartphone would not use Leica's lenses, which powered the P9 series.

Other possible specifications could be a Kirin 950 octa-core processor, 3GB/4GB RAM, a fingerprint scanner on the back and full-metal construction. The handset might also run Google's latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Huawei's Emotion UI skin on top of it.

Huawei appears to be investing a lot to strengthen its mobile phones business. Just this January, the company launched its MediaPad M2 10.0 tablet and unveiled the flagship P9 and P9 Plus smartphones on April 6. The company silently listed two new budget devices, Y3 II and Y5 II, on its global website sans pricing and availability details.

Rumours are rife about the new handsets slated to join the Huawei and Honor brands soon. The Chinese smartphone maker has reportedly been working on the Huawei P9 Lite for customers who wish to get the flagship nature of the P9 in a slightly toned down version. The P9 Lite was recently spotted at TENAA, the Chinese certification site, which revealed key details of the handset.

According to the leak, the P9 Lite will feature a 5.2-inch Full HD display, Kirin 650 octa-core processor, 3GB RAM, 16GB storage, 13MP primary camera with LED flash and Android 6.0 Marshmallow with EMUI 4.1 out-of-the-box.

Huawei's sub-brand Honor is also preparing to launch a new mid-range Honor 5C smartphone on April 28. The handset is expected to have a metal rear shell, HD 720p display, 2GB RAM, Android 6.0 Marshmallow, 13MP camera and dual SIM slots. It's hard to pin down the exact specifications of these rumoured devices, but consumers won't have to wait long to find out the real deal.
