The residence of Information and Broadcasting Minster Manish Tewari came under scanner on Saturday for an alleged acid attack attempt after two bottles containing suspicious liquid were found outside his residence.

Tewari reacted sharply to the incident alleging that it was a conspiracy to attack him with the acid bottles being placed outside his family residence in Chandigarh.

According to police sources, four bottles were found outside the residence by the minister's servant, out of which two of them contained the liquid. To ascertain the exact nature of the liquids, the bottles had been sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) for examination.

Ruling out the acid attack motive, DSP Vijay Kumar told NDTV, "There is no information like this. The police checked the bottles. They are toilet cleaners."

The union minster, who enjoys a Z security cover, left for his Lok Sabha constituency in Ludhiana soon after the acid attack scare.

The incident created panic because of the rise in acid attack incidents in the country where women fall victims to the vicious attack almost everyday.

On Friday too, an acid attack incident was reported from a UP village where a woman was thrown the deadly chemical by her suitor. It brings to light an easy availability of the deadly chemical despite the recent restrictions imposed by the Supreme Court on the purchase of acid.

It may be recalled that, a 25-year-old girl succumbed to acid burns last month after an unknown assailant threw acid at her in the Mumbai's Bandra terminal.
