An Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader's mutilated body was found in a swamp near his house in Begum Pur, outer Delhi, on Monday.

The head and private parts of 30-year-old Dhirendra Ishwar's body had been chopped off.

Ishwar was the Purvanchal Wing district leader of AAP. He was a masseur and had been living in the area with his family for years.

The Delhi Police suspect it to be a hate crime, considering the nature of the wounds.

Ishwar's wife Rakhi said that Ishwar had recently had a spat with a Delhi Jal board Engineer and he allegedly possessed video clips of "corrupt" people. But, the police is currently investigating if the crime was related to an extramarital affair.

"We are probing the possibility of the deceased having an extramarital affair that could have led to his murder. But it is too premature to come to any conclusion," said a senior police officer.

"My husband's mobile phone has not been recovered. All the video clips were in that phone. He was also once involved in a scuffle with a DJB engineer and had later filed an RTI against him. The police must probe the murder from these angles," The Hindu quoted Rakhi as saying.

The police have been questioning family and friends; however, no clues have been found regarding the identity of the killer yet.

The police have detained a man with whom Ishwar had gone to attend an AAP meeting in West Delhi's Nangloi on Sunday at 6 pm. Ishwar's mother Sumitra had spoken to him at 7 pm. When she tried calling him at 8 pm, she found his phone had been switched off. Then, she called the associate he had left for the meeting with.

"That man said he had dropped Ishwar on the road near our home and left," she said.

Ishwar had opened a yoga institute in the area two weeks ago, but had to shut it down due to an on-going property dispute.

"The police have registered a case of murder and several persons have been questioned. The body of the deceased has been sent for post-mortem examination," DCP (Outer) Vikramjit Singh was quoted as saying by Business Standard.

The Police are yet to ascertain where the murder took place. AAP President and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted that he would visit the bereaved family.
