Jayaram's upcoming horror comedy "Aadupuliyattam" has been hitting the headlines for quite some time now. The film was said to have "Pathemari"-fame Jewel Mary in the female lead, but, recently reports had it that the actress backed out of the project as some of Jayaram's recent films couldn't make a mark at the box office.

In a recent interview to a news website, Jewel had slammed rumours of backing out of the film. The actress said she didn't commit to the project as she wasn't satisfied with the film's script.

However, the makers of "Aadupuliyattam" have now attacked the actress for her controversial statements. They claim they removed Jewel from the cast. The statements makers have been shared on producer Haseeb Haneef's Facebook page.

"I wanted the heroine of 'Aadupuliyattam' to be young. But, since Jewel has played some aged characters in 'Pathemari' and 'Utopiayile Rajavu', the audience feel she is not young. I beought up this matter before the producers of my movie, and it was they who removed her from the cast," said director Kannan Thamarakulam.

"Due to Jewel's poor performance in our film 'Utopiayile Rajavu', it didn't do well and we faced some financial issues. However, she expressed her interest in "Aadupuliyattam" without even hearing its script. But after she asked if the film has a new generation hero, we removed her from the cast," said producers Haseeb Haneef and Naushad Alathoor.

The makers have also said even Bollywood actor Om Puri, South Indian actress Ramya Krishna and superstar Jayaram have given dates after hearing the film's script. "Just because we removed Jewel from the film, she should not make some controversial statements about its script," they said.

The upcoming film started rolling on 23 November in Thodupuzha.
