Suriya's movie "24" has got superb response in premiere shows and made brilliant collection at the U.S. box office on the first day. The Vikram Kumar-directed film has beaten the record of Vijay's "Theri."
Cine Galaxy, which has acquired the distribution rights of the movie "24," released in it in over 270 screens in Tamil and Telugu languages across North America on Friday. The distributor held premiere shows of the film in over 130 locations on Thursday night. The film, which had decent advance booking, opened to an earth-shattering response everywhere in the paid preview shows.
The sci-fi thriller "24" made superb collection at the U.S. box office in the premiere shows and became the biggest opener for Suriya in the country. ATMUS Entertainment, the Tamil film distributor in the U.S., tweeted: "#24TheMovie USA to beat many records,Suriya's best premiere $131K+ till now,in top10 BO today, will be Suriya's highest grosser by Friday! [sic]"
A few hours later, ATMUS Entertainment further tweeted: "#24TheMovie USA $157905 and Can $6440 total $164345 reported gross from premieres. Tami and Telugu reported together. Expect Million $ wknd! [sic]"
The movie "24" showed decent growth on Friday and collected approximately $255,000 at the US box office in its first day. It became the all-time highest grosser for Suriya there. ATMUS Entertainment tweeted: "#24TheMovie becomes Suriya's highest grosser in USA by Friday! $255K Friday, total $420K+!! Tamil and Telugu together. Blockbuster!! [sic]"
Trade expert Taran Adarsh tweeted: "#24TheFilm takes an ELECTRIFYING start in USA + Canada... Debuts at No 9 on US charts... Nears half-million mark till Fri... SUPERB. contd. #24TheFilm [Tamil + Telugu]... USA: Thu+Fri $ 440,980 CANADA: Thu+Fri $ 21,872 Total: $ 462,852 [â‚¹ 3.08 cr] FANTABULOUS! @Rentrak [sic]."
Vijay's recent release, "Theri," collected $251,123 in premiere shows and over $130,000 on its opening day. The movie collected approximately $381,436 at the U.S. box office and became the biggest Kollywood opener of 2016. Having collected $440,000, "24" shattered the record of "Theri" and topped the list of the biggest Kollywood openers of the year.
