The launch of the new Maruti Suzuki Swift hatchback is almost confirmed with reports indicating that the production of the model is underway in India. The new Swift hatchback is now rumoured to be launched in India at the Auto Expo in February.

Although Maruti Suzuki is yet to confirm the arrival of the model, a recent report of RushLane hints at the imminent launch and reveals that the new avatar of the hatchback has hit the assembly line. The current model of Swift is believed to be out of the production line and some of the dealerships of the company do not have the stock of the model.

Rumours also say that the customers who have booked the current model will get the upgraded version in February. The dealers of Maruti Suzuki are reportedly notifying customers. Even as the carmakers prepare to reveal their final line-ups for Auto Expo 2018, rumours are rife that the new Swift will definitely be among them.

The new Swift is based on the light and rigid new-generation platform Heartect. It flaunts honeycomb grille at the front along with sweptback headlamps with LED daytime running lights (DRLs). The side remains identical to the current Swift and wears blacked-out A-pillar. The new Swift rides on new diamond-cut allow wheels. At the rear, the new Swift hatchback gets new LED tail lamps with new bumper and boot lid.

The cabin of the Swift features a new dashboard with the twin-pod instrument cluster, steering mounted controls and touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Bluetooth AUX, USB and Apple CarPlay connectivity.

In the international market, powering the new Swift is a 1.0-litre BoosterJet engine and a 1.2-litre DualJet engine, with SHVS mild-hybrid system. It is not clear whether the same engines will make it to the Indian market when it comes in 2018.

For now, the India-spec new Swift is rumoured to continue with the 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engines. Both the mills are expected to be offered with the choice of manual and automatic options.
