While it is no more a secret that the Japanese carmaker Suzuki is readying a new avatar of its popular hatchback the Swift, this is probably for the first time; the model in the making has been spotted out in the public, without any hint of camouflage.

The latest talk on the auto corridor is the new Swift, which is expected to see the light of the day sometime in 2017. The India-bound model, which is in the news for past couple of months, has now been leaked onto the web through an image. The image gives fairly good picture of what to expect from the new Swift.

From the images, this time, when Swift went under the knife, Suzuki has decided it to give a new look. Although the new Swift maintains the characteristic lines and appearances of the current model, it does adapt to new changes.

The next generation Swift, which is codenamed YSD sports a new bold front grille with chrome touch around it, clamshell like bonnet and fog lamp enclosure. It is now expected to get a new headlamp cluster with LED Daytime Running Lamps, larger air dams and LED tail lamps. The changes are also likely to be extended into the cabin and the new Swift is expected to get more upmarket interiors with new infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink compatibility, twin-pod instrument cluster and new steering wheel.

Mechanically, the new Swift is likely to be continued with the 1.2 litre petrol and 1.3 litre diesel engines, which does duty in the current model. We also hear that the new Swift could a new 1.5 litre diesel engine under the hood. Not just that, there have also been reports that the new avatar of the Swift could come plonked with a 1.0-litre BoosterJet turbo-petrol engine that is going to power the Baleno RS in India. The new-gen Swift is expected to make it way to the market in 2017.
