Two days after images of 2016 R15 leaked online, Yamaha launched a new version of the motorcycle in the Indonesian market for 29.8 million Indonesian Rupiah that equals approximately Rs 1.52 lakh. The 2016 model doesn't include any changes in design, powertrain or price, but adds a three new colour combination to keep the model fresh till the arrival of the next generation of the model in 2017.

The new three colour themes are christened as Blue Race, Supernova White and Speed Grey. The Blue race has racing colours in blue and white. The motorcycle is powered by the same 149cc single cylinder liquid-cooled engine. The engine develops 16.7bhp at 8,500rpm and 14.5Nm of torque at 7,500rpm mated to six-speed transmission.

"The new look YZF-R15, we hope to satisfy the consumer. Colour choices are more varied with creative graphics. Consumers were more stylish and sporty," Assistant GM Marketing of PT Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing (YIMM) Mohammad Masykur said in a statement.

The 2016 model is not expected to reach Indian shores as India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd updated the model with new colour combination in February 2016. The India-spec model is available in Revving Blue, Sparky Green and Adrenaline Red shades and the motorcycle has been priced at Rs 1,18,373, ex-showroom, Delhi.

Based on the Delta box frame, the R15 comes with telescopic front suspension and mono suspension at the rear. The motorcycle is equipped with disc brakes at both tyres. The R15 measures 1,970mm in height, 670mm in width and 1,070mm in height with a wheelbase of 1,345mm. The R15 also features 160mm ground clearance and 136 kilogram kerb weight.
