Eight wickets is all India need to take a 1-0 series lead after South Africa finished day 4 on 138 for two with Alviro Petersen, batting wonderfully on 76, and Faf Du Plessis (8) at the crease.
South Africa, who were set a target of 458, after India were all out for 421 in their second inning, have lost skipper Graeme Smith, run out thanks to a brilliant direct hit by Ajinkya Rahane, and Hashim Amla, who was unbelievably bowled by Mohammed Shami while trying to duck a short delivery that kept low and struck the top of off.
The Proteas trail India by 319 runs with notching up that target seemingly out of their reach on the final day, with the pitch wearing and cracks, opening up with every passing hour, causing problems.
The likes of Zaheer Khan, Mohammed Shami and Ishant Sharma did a wonderful job in the first innings, to ensure India went into the second innings with a lead and the onus will be on them yet again to take the remaining eight wickets needed to post a victory, which many thought was near impossible for this young and inexperienced side.
Du Plessis and Petersen will look to bat as long as possible, and the longer they are at the crease, the more frustrated the fielding side are bound to get.
It will be a game of patience, with 90 overs to play, and the side that blinks first is bound tp be behind the eight ball sooner than you can say out.
India will be hoping for a five-wicket burst similar to the one they enjoyed in the first innings, where South Africa went from 130 for one to 146 for six in a flash.
No matter what, it promises to be a gripping day of Test cricket, in a match that has been enthralling right from ball one.
