The Trans-Tasman rivalry gets renewed on Sunday as Australia lock horns with New Zealand in the first of their three-match ODI series, scheduled to take place at the Sydney Cricket Ground. The annual Chappell–Hadlee Trophy is always an occasion of pride for the cricket fans of both nations.

A total of nine series have been played so far and the Aussies have a 4-3 edge over the Kiwis, with two games tied. WATCH STEVE SMITH'S SENSATIONAL KNOCK FROM THE MATCH | TOP MOMENTS FROM THE MATCH...

Australia come into the series this time at the back of some heavy hammering at the hands of South Africa in their recently concluded ODI and Test series. The Kiwis, on the other hand, come into the series at the back of a defeat against India in the ODIs and later a 2-0 win over Pakistan in a two-match series.

The confidence may be with New Zealand, but they are missing some real important players from their lineup for the series. Ross Taylor is recovering from eye surgery, while Adam Milne, Mitchell McClenaghan and Corey Anderson are all out injured.

Australia, meanwhile, have the likes of Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc available after a much-needed rest.

Expected starting XI

Australia: David Warner, Aaron Finch, Steven Smith (C), George Bailey, Mitchell Marsh, Travis Head/Glenn Maxwell, Matthew Wade (wk), Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood.

New Zealand: Tom Latham, Martin Guptill, Kane Williamson (C), Henry Nicholls, Colin Munro, James Neesham, BJ Watling (wk), Mitchell Santner, Matt Henry/Lockie Ferguson/Colin de Grandhomme, Tim Southee, Trent Boult.

Schedule

1st ODI: Australia vs New Zealand is set to get underway at 2:20 pm local time (3:20 am GMT | 8:50 am IST) on December 4.
