Suriya's "Singam 2" has fared exceptionally well at overseas box office during the first week.

"Singam 2" has made more than ₹3 crore at the overseas box office that includes countries like US, UK and Australia.

The first week collection of the film in the US is pegged at ₹1.61 crore, ₹99 lakh from UK, and ₹62 lakh from Australia, taking the total collections of the film from these three key markets to ₹3.22 crore.

"Tamil film #Singam2 - USA [Week 1]: $ 268,813 [Rs 1.61 cr]. Excellent! Tamil film #Singam2 - UK [Week 1]: £ 109,483 [Rs 99.42 lacs]. Super!," trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh tweeted.

"Tamil film #Singam2 - Australia [Week 1]: A$ 113,735 [Rs 62.30 lacs]. Very good!"

"Singam 2" was released in record number of screens worldwide. "Singam 2"  performed well at the domestic as well as overseas markets despite receiving mixed reviews from film critics.

Suriya and brand "Singam" has helped "Singam 2" receive good response from the audience. The film is expected to do good business this week (until Thursday) too as there are no big Tamil film releases. However, its collections could drop after the release of Dhanush's "Maryan" (or "Mariyaan") on 19 July (Friday).

"Maryan" (The Prince of Ocean) is one of the most-awaited Tamil films of 2013, thanks to its impressive trailer and its hero Dhanush who is riding high on the success of his latest release, "Raanjhanaa" ("Ambikapathy" in Tamil). The release of "Maryan" could affect "Singam 2" collections.

Meanwhile, the team of "Singam 2" is already celebrating the film's success. Just a week after the makers held a success meet, lead actor of the film, Suriya threw a success party for his friends in the industry. "Suriya threw #Singam2 success party on Friday night at a popular 5 star 4 his friends in the industry," senior film journalist Sreedhar Pillai tweeted.

The success of "Singam 2" would have brought a sense of relief for Suriya, whose last two films did not do well at the box office. The actor will next be seen in two new projects - one with Lingusamy and other with Gautham Vasudev Menon.
