The makers of Aamir Khan's "Dhoom 3" have started booking theatres in Tamil Nadu. The film is all set to hit screens on 20 December, a few days ahead of Christmas.

Confirming the news, senior film journalist Sreedhar Pillai tweeted, "#Dhoom3, @yrf starts booking theaters in TN through @SPIcinemas  4 a Dec 20 release in Hindi & Tamil."

"Dhoom 3" will be simultaneously released in Hindi and Tamil versions. The action-thriller flick starring Aamir Khan is one of the most-awaited films of 2013. It is the third installment in the "Dhoom" franchise. The Hindi and the Tamil versions of "Dhoom 2", starring Hrithik Roshan, were big hits at the Tamil Nadu box office.

Aamir's film is also expected to perform well, as the actor has a good fan following in the state. He plays the antagonist in the third installment, which was previously played by John Abraham and Hrithik in the first and second films of the franchise.

Directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, "Dhoom 3" will have Abhishek Bachchan reprising his cop role and Uday Chopra as his sidekick. The film will have Katrina Kaif playing the female lead. The first look teaser of "Dhoom 3" has generated a lot of buzz. Expectations are quite high for the film thanks to Aamir's star power and the success of the franchise.

The film will have a wide release in India as well as in overseas markets. In northern circuits, "Dhoom 3" will have a solo release on 20 December which will help the film make a fantastic opening in its first weekend.

However, the film will face strong competition from regional films in south India. In Tamil Nadu, two films - "Endrendrum Punngai" and "Biriyani", have announced the same release date as "Dhoom 3". There is likely to be a big battle among these three films to grab more screens.

In Andhra Pradesh, "Dhoom 3" is expected to have a face-off with Ram Charan's "Yevadu" which might release on 19 December.
