mRUPEE, a subsidiary of Tata Teleservices, on Monday announced its tie-up with the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) to provide an additional payment gateway which will enable users to successfully complete ticket bookings through one-tap payments.

According to mRUPEE, the tie-up will help a significant number of over 23 million passengers Indian Railways ferries every day.

IRCTC, a subsidiary of the Indian Railways that handles the catering, tourism and online ticketing operations, is the biggest e-commerce portal in India and holds the record for completing over 13 lakh ticket bookings in a day. On an average, the IRCTC portal witnesses almost five lakh bookings per day.

"Our partnership with IRCTC adds to the tremendous reach of mRUPEE's market," Pradeep K Sampath, chief operating officer of mRUPEE, said in a press statement. "We're excited that these kinds of meaningful partnerships are helping to not only give our customers the ease of quick and convenient booking, but also give a thrust to the government's mandate of enhancing wider adoption of digital money in India."

mRUPEE has been aggressive in its partnerships in the recent past and had tied up with SmartD, a food lifestyle management platform in Chennai. It also entered a partnership with ICICI Bank to launch a recharge facility for Delhi Metro cards.
